So I couldn't help but notice the countless tweets today about Pat Robertson, many of them simply repeating the ignorance the media spouted:
"Gay Marriage leads to Beastiality and Pedophilia"
For one thing, that's not what he said. And I quote straight from the article: “You mark my words, this is just the beginning in a long downward slide in relation to all the things that we consider to be abhorrent.”
He's not saying that being a homosexual will lead to getting involved with bestiality and/or pedophilia.
He's saying that full out acceptance of previously abhorred practices (such as homosexuality) will repeat itself with other still currently abhorred practices (such as beastiality, pedophilia, etc).
It's like people saying legalizing Marijuana will open the door for legalization of other currently illegal drugs. That does not translate to: "Marijuana users will eventually get into other illegal drugs".
I realize he also said: "How can we criminalize these things and at the same time have constitutional amendments allowing same-sex marriage among homosexuals."
He is again, grouping things that we currently find abhorrent with things that we previously found abhorrent because in God's eyes, they're all abhorrent.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending Pat Robertson....more defending how fast the media can mess with the English language to get their ratings and how fast people are willing to accept these statements without reading the actual quotes within the article(s).

Elderly Worship Service in the Making!
So I'm excited, we're going to start a worship service for the elderly. Just me and a couple guys right now but anybody interested is invited and welcome to join us.
I really believe God is giving me a passion for the elderly. I still can't believe that 1 out of every 10 elderly people in an elderly home (nursing, retirement, etc) only gets 1 visit per year. That's just crazy! I mean showing Jesus' love to these people would be so easy just by spending time with them.
Scott Nicholson said something to us the other night and it really struck home. These people are near the end of their lives, they've lived the American dream, they are the Ecclesiastes and proverbs! They've come all this way and they KNOW that life is meaningless (vapor, fleeting) like Solomon says. And therefore they know there has to be more to life than just this.
Anyway, this is just a short note cuz I wanted everyone to know that we're starting up this worship service soon. If you are interested, feel free to contact me or Scott Nicholson or even just take a look at Titus II's website: http://www.titusii.org . Not just for worship but in general using your gifts to love the older folks and let them know Jesus loves them too.

Did I really ever quit Everquest?
Well here is the brand new blog. Yes I finally switched to using blogger instead of the home-made stuff. There comes a point when it make sense to not reinvent the wheel.
So Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I am thankful that God has provided for my daily needs all my life and so much more. I have a great job that I enjoy and pays well, Jessica just got laid off from her job but she has gained a wealth of experience in the year she has worked there, He provided this house that we live in just about 2 years ago now, we have never even come close to starving and enjoy plenty of the Middle Class lifestyle. Both sides of our family are healthy and growing and we are slowly moving on to the next stages of our life in our marriage. That's a lot to be thankful for.
This morning, I was thinking, as I walked the dogs around the neighborhood, that living life and just enjoying the many blessings that we have is actually much like playing Everquest. It can be fun, it occupies your time, and it may be all you want to do with your day. Some days you might get cool stuff (phat lewtz), probably spend a lot of time watching TV (many hours on a long raid) and yet some days you might not get the things you want (quest items that hardly ever drop) or feel like you haven't accomplished much.
Well as some of you know, the reason I quit playing Everquest was because I believed God wanted me to be doing something more productive with my free time. Sadly, besides working a 2nd job over the past year (which has paid off some loans, I'll admit) I probably have mostly spent that time watching TV. Not much of a difference from playing Everquest, now that I think about it.
Well what are we here for? I truly believe in my heart we're here to know Jesus and make Him known. What does that mean? Well I'll tell you what it doesn't mean. It doesn't mean playing Everquest for 40 hours a week nor does it mean watching TV or holing yourself up into your own life and never coming into contact with others for fear of rejection.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, I need to be really living my life for God instead of riding along enjoying His blessings. I think where I need to start is gathering of knowledge and wisdom and prayer.
1. I need to pray every day and I need to read the bible daily. Hah, that sounds so simple and many of you are probably reading this thinking, "I do this already" well props to you because I have not done a good job of it myself. I've delved into prayer and the bible off and on but I've never made it a daily thing so that's one thing I want to start doing.
2. Also, I need to learn apologetics. I want to defend my faith. Did you know that at my work, I can be hanging out with my coworkers at a bar and I'm the only one who believes in God, let alone the Bible or Jesus? You'd think as the organizer of these outings that I'd maybe try to have a go at some friendly debates about the existence of God (to start) and sure, I have talked about issues with some of them separately but frankly I've always felt lacking. My excuse has always been "well I haven't studied the bible enough..but here's what I believe". Well that's all it is, an excuse. Some of my coworkers do know that I believe what I do and they, being the logical thinking computer scientists they are, probably think I'm really stupid for believing in that "mumbo jumbo". And yes I care what they think but it also makes me look inward at what I believe and why. I have faith and I know that can't be explained or debated to some but there are so many historical facts and logical principles that lead to the existence of God and the truth of the bible. I just need to study them.
3. Take a more active part in the community. I currently serve on the board for a group called Titus II Ministries. We are just a group of people that want to connect the church with the old folks homes. These elderly people hardly ever get visited from anyone, let alone family members and there are lots of things that anyone can do to brighten their days. I'm talking bible studies, worship services, but also even things like playing chess or reading to them, maybe just even getting to know them and taking time out of your own life to visit them. And maybe in the process of this, some of them might even come to know Jesus too. Well I work on the website for this group but that's basically all I've gotten around to doing. It probably wouldn't hurt me to reach out and try make a difference in some of these elderly peoples' lives. Food for thought. Let me know if anyone else is interested in helping out for this cause as well. The website is: http://www.titusii.org .
So there you have it, some things I can do to improve my life, to give God the reins and let Him drive. These many causes might have an interesting effect.
